Samsung have announced their latest 2.5-inch hard-drive, and while it may not be a fashionable SSD it does at least have capacity going for it. Â The Samsung Spinpoint M7 packs 640GB into its dual-platter design, with 5,400rpm spin speed.
The new drive is possible because Samsung have managed to squeeze more data density onto their platters; in fact, they’ve managed a 28-percent increase over their previous 500GB high-end 2.5-inch drive. Â The 640GB M7 is also reasonably shock resistant, and while you won’t be seeing it in rugged computers it should be able to survive some ultraportable use.

In support of the forthcoming Scars Basement Jaxx head out on a self-proclaimed North American "whistlestop DJ tour" this fall. It starts in San Francisco on 10/30. They're in L.A. for Halloween. Then onward.
