Cradlepoint announces 3G-ready CTR500 travel router

It's been a while since we've heard anything from the mobile-friendly folks at Cradlepoint, but it looks like they've hit all the right marks with their new 3G-ready CTR500 travel router, which takes all the features of the previous CTR-350 model and adds a few welcome additions. The biggest of those is an ExpressCard slot, which complements the existing USB port to accommodate whatever 3G modem or 3G-capable cellphone you might have.

Samsung Gylde Review

The Samsung Glyde was one of the most hyped phones on an American carrier in recent memory leading up to its launch, and there's one small problem with that: it's hard to live up to the fanfare, no matter how good (or bad) the phone might be. A common early complaint coming out of the gate seems to be the lack of support for Verizon's MediaFLO-based VCAST TV service, a service that the Glyde's main competition, the Voyager, supports.

Ricoh drops resilient G600 into market

Ricoh, living up to its reputation for interesting niche digital cameras, has launched the G600 water and dust resistant model. The G600 is smaller than the 500G Wide it replaces but still offers a versatile 28-140mm equivalent lens with 1cm closest focusing distance. Its rugged casing conforms to all manner of US defense and Japanese standards (including the ability to survive being immersed in water for half an hour), meaning you should never have to worry about carrying it with you.

Mac mini

The Mac Mini hasn't been updated in a year and, rumor has it, has been relegated to end-of-life status by Apple. That would be a shame. It's the most elegant Mac ever made. For a symposium a year ago we had to install 8 kiosks. I sent out our postdocs to buy 8 mac Minis. It was so great to have them come back with bags full of tiny, perfect computers.

HTC S710 Smartphone

Of all the gadgets I cover every day I'm particularly interested in cellphones and I've owned more over the past few years than I'd like to admit. My latest is the HTC S710 which is one of the first smartphones to run the new Windows Mobile 6 operating system. The phone is small enough to fit in most pockets but also includes a fantastic slide out keyboard with a full Qwerty layout. With built-in Wifi and mobile versions of Word, Excel and Internet Explorer it usually allows me to leave the laptop at home.
