Okay, Okay, so animated children’s stories usually do not fit your demographic. That’s completely reasonable and sane, because too much Bambi is a red flag. However, Pixar is the one exception to the formula, a company that produces animated stories beloved by adults maybe as much as children.

Don’t believe me? Did you attend the recent digitally remastered double feature of Toy Story in theaters? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Up! was a huge box office hit this summer and is released on DVD, today, November 10th. Pixar’s latest animated wonder is the fantastical journey of a curmudgeonly senior citizen (voiced by Edward Asner) and an overeager cub scout. The adventure all begins when their house is lifted out of its urban foundation, propelling them into a South American journey for the ages.

The producers made a wise decision when they brought on Denzel Washington and John Travolta, as you cannot really go wrong with that pair financially. Unfortunately, however, they handed the direction over to Tony Scott and I’m afraid it suffers dearly under his frantic pace and jump cuts. While The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 was not horrible, it certainly did not live up to the original 1974 classic. I know big surprise, right?

Hollywood is notorious for taking a good novel, adapting it into a movie, and completely destroying all of it’s credibility. Although I have yet to see I Love You, Beth Cooper, I’m told it follows along the same line. While your average dude would expect to want to watch a high school romantic comedy is beyond me, unless of course, it stars Hayden Panettiere. Then, you logically have a very good excuse. Enjoy wasting another hour and a half of your life.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra headlines this week’s new releases on DVD.

While fans of the Hasbro toy franchise may revel in a bit of nostalgia, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is largely a cartoonish, over-the-top action fest propelled by silly writing, inconsistent visual effects, and merely passable performances. Still, if Transformers 2 can shatter box office numbers, this DVD will sell more than a few copies.

Director William Friedkin was a hot ticket in Hollywood after the success of The French Connection, and he turned heads (in more ways than one) when he decided to make The Exorcist as his follow-up film. Adapted by William Peter Blatty from his controversial bestseller, this shocking 1973 thriller set an intense and often-copied milestone for screen terror with its unflinching depiction of a young girl (Linda Blair) who is possessed by an evil spirit.

Jason Miller and Max von Sydow are perfectly cast as the priests who risk their sanity and their lives to administer the rites of demonic exorcism. Ellen Burstyn plays Blair’s mother, who can only stand by in horror as her daughter’s body is wracked by Satanic disfiguration. One of the most frightening films ever made, The Exorcist was mysteriously plagued by trouble during production, and the years since have not diminished its capacity to disturb even the most stoic viewers. The film is presented in letterbox format on digital video disc, with a remastered soundtrack that’s guaranteed to curdle your blood. The 25th-anniversary Special Edition DVD of The Exorcist is packed with bonus features, including a 74-minute documentary titled The Fear of God: The Making of The Exorcist, which includes interviews with cast and crew, audio commentary by William Friedkin and author William Peter Blatty, a special introduction by Friedkin, theatrical trailers and TV spots, and DVD-exclusive coverage of the film’s storyboards and production design.

If you really want to see a scary movie this Halloween you need to skip the cheap thrills of the new age Halloween movies and stick to the classic self-titled, Halloween.

Halloweenis as pure and undiluted as its title. In the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, a teenage baby sitter tries to survive a Halloween night of relentless terror, during which a knife-wielding maniac goes after the town’s hormonally charged youths. Director John Carpenter takes this simple situation and orchestrates a superbly mounted symphony of horrors. It’s a movie much scarier for its dark spaces and ominous camera movements than for its explicit bloodletting (which is actually minimal). Produced on a low budget, the picture turned a monster profit, and spawned many sequels, none of which approached the 1978 original.

If you want to find something truly freightening, you could purchase the VHS version on Amazon. (Assuming you still own something that can play those vintage tapes).

What do you get when you put one of the hottest women on planet earth in a thriller with its share of special effects?

Megan Fox and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the follow-up to the popular 2008 hit Transformers. While most went to see the well choreograped battle scenes, graphics, and cheesy plot lines, I would recommend purchasing the DVD just for Megan Fox. Much of the rest of the original cast returns including Fox’s running mate Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro. Rainn Wilson from The Office also joins in on the fun as a college professor.

If you’re a dude, you like Will Ferrell. Not only is the guy incredibly funny, but he is also probably the only guy in Hollywood who has a bigger gut than you. Men appreciate a guy who can make us all laugh while we chug a few beers and do not feel the least bit bad about our lack of exercise. Ferrell has recently provided plenty of laughs from films ”Step Brothers,” “Talladega Nights,” and “Anchorman” to name a few but when he crossed over to a more family appropriate adaptation – many wondered if he would lose some of his luster.

The critics were indifferent about “Land of the Lost,” and some considered it one of the biggest busts of Summer ‘09. If you didn’t catch the film in theaters, Land of the Lost is available on DVD today to buy, rent, or do that one thing…what do you call it?…oh yeah, Netflix.

Eddie Murphy and cute child actress Yara Shahidi play father and daughter in this pleasant family comedy. Evan Danielson (Murphy), a financial analyst at a Denver investment firm, is so into his job he’s separated from his wife and spends little time with his seven-year-old daughter Olivia (Shahidi). Then she comes to stay with Evan for a week just as he is competing for a big promotion. Olivia retreats into a fantasy world, which she describes, but is never shown onscreen. Her imaginary characters tell her things she passes on to her dad, and he turns them into investment tips.
